Immunization Training

The program will address the pathophysiology and pharmacology of immunology.  It will provide guidelines concerning the development of a practice in immunization.  The legal and ethical issues that surround the provision of care to patients who require immunizations will be included.  The assessment of patients who may be in need of immunization will be in the curriculum.  More details are in the outline attached to this description.

  • Describe the immune system and its reaction to disease and immunization
  • For each vaccine covered, list the disease states associated with the immunization, the type or nature of the activity of the immunization, the administration schedule, the route(s) of administration, the injection sites, the dosage, the proper monitoring parameters for adverse reactions, the appropriate patient populations, precautions and contraindications and proper storage requirements for the immunization
  • Describe and demonstrate proper administration technique for injectable immunizations
  • Describe and demonstrate proper techniques for intranasal administration of intranasal vaccine
  • Describe and demonstrate proper disposal procedures for contaminated materials
  • Describe the proper procedure for addressing accidental needle sticks
  • Describe protocols for administering vaccines that will comply with appropriate laws, regulations and standards of practice
  • Describe a method for implementing an immunization practice in the community or hospital setting
