Technician: Advancing Competency in Aseptic non-Hazardous and Hazardous Compounding Practices


This activity is a three-part ACPE Accredited Pharmacy program for pharmacists and technicians composed of:

  • Session 1 is a 3-hour self-study requirement to acquire (available here upon registration), review and comprehend USP Chapters <797 and <800> (related to aseptic compounding). Note: a virtual didactic assessment must be completed to acquire the CE and move on to Session 2.
  • Session 2 is a 5-hour On-demand knowledge program (preceding the live on-site program). Date available: TBD
  • Session 3 is an 8-Hour Live (on site at the University of Findlay) hands-on application-based program
The cost to register is $499.00, this fee will cover all 3 sessions, Session 1 must be completed before Session 2 will be available.  Both Session 1 & 2 must be completed before attending the Live session on March 22

A 5-hour recorded on-demand program directed at preparing the participant for the 1-day experiential experience.

Objectives

An 8-hour live program combined with the concepts learned from the Self-Study and On Demand Programs will allow the participant to apply their knowledge during the observed performance and execution of: designed procedures, aseptic manipulations, and finished formulation assessments.  The program is constructed to prepare and enhance the competency of practicing pharmacists and technicians, regulatory compliance officers and student pharmacists in maintaining and exceeding compliancy with current standards of practice for USP Categories 1,2 and 3 aseptic compounding.

Objectives

  • Apply regulatory guidelines, standards of practice to the practice of aseptic compounding
  • Demonstrate proper garbing and gowning as it relates to standard compliant aseptic compounding activities
  • Perform mock fingertip and surface testing to confirm proper techniques and sanitization as well as sterilization confirmation
  • Perform a series of aseptic techniques including a mock HD, through the application of designed and learning procedures regarding asepsis.
  • Perform and design media fill challenge tests and compliance with USP requirements
