Ashtabula-Understanding the neurobiology of substance use disorder and the role pharmacists have in safe dispensing practices of opioid medications


Dr. Jon Sprague will speak on the recent advances in neurobiology of substance use disorder to help pharmacists better understand this process. He will also discuss the role pharmacists have in educating patients on the safe use, storage and disposal of opioid medications.

Requirements for CE Credit

After creating your profile, attending/viewing the presentation and successfully passing (80% or higher) post-test (if required), you can complete the evaluation to claim CPE credit.  Complete the evaluation by answering every question.  Do not leave any question unanswered.  If you do not have a comment or do not feel you want to answer the question, please put “NA” in the space provided.  IMPORTANT:  You must complete all the above requirements by 30 DAYS FROM PROGRAM. Brief Bio : Dr. Jon E. Sprague is the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Eminent Scholar and the Director of the Ohio Attorney General’s Center for the Future of Forensic Sciences at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Prior to joining BGSU, Dr. Sprague was the University Director of Academic Research and Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the College of Pharmacy at Ferris State University. Before joining Ferris State University, he served as Dean and Professor of Pharmacology at the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University (ONU). Dr. Sprague has also served as Chair and Professor of Pharmacology at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia Tech University. He received his PhD. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Purdue University. He also was on the faculty in the College of Pharmacy at Purdue. His research and teaching interests include the neurobiology of addiction and the pharmacology and toxicology of drugs of abuse. Dr. Sprague has over 80 peer-reviewed publications in these topic areas. Dr. Sprague was also instrumental in writing the synthetic drug laws for the State of Ohio. These laws have focused on the synthetic cathinones, cannabinoids and opioids.
